Identify duplicate record
The first step is to identify the duplicate records.

Duplicate search criteria
The duplicate search has 3 stages of criteria to search by. There is not an option to search only by the first and last name. There has to be one additional search criteria, the exception is Stage 3 which will search only email addresses.

Select merge option
After that is completed you would return to Admin > Data Clean and select one of two options.
When you merge duplicates the auto-merge will take information from the newer contact record and use it to update the information in the older (original) contact record, based on the records’ ID numbers.
Merge record will contain all of the tags, history, notes etc., from both records
